      VALE BRUCE REID
Former Bendigo politician Bruce Reid has died, aged 84. A Liberal Party stalwart he began as a Victorian member of the Legislative Council for the Bendigo electorate in 1976 and continued until 1988 when the seat was abolished and redistributed. Mr Reid was elected as the Federal Member for Bendigo in 1990 and served until August 1998. Former City of Greater Bendigo Citizen of the Year and long-time friend of Bruce Reid, Ian Dyett, told ABC Central Victoria he was a very popular man. "He was a genuine all-round good guy, he was a big man very imposing, handsome man," he said. "People always looked up to him. If Bruce walked the length of Hargreaves Mall he wouldn't get from one end to the other without about a dozen people wanting to shake his hand." Ian said. "He was a giant of a man, he had the biggest hands of anyone I've ever known!"
